Media Center

Media Specialist - Elise Frevel -

The students at SDE love to visit the Media Center where the electronic card catalog makes finding books easy and fun. We have a large number of fiction and non-fiction books for both students, parents and teachers to check out. Students are able to use the media computers for Reading Counts test or other research based learning. Students are encouraged to come in before school to check out or work with FCAT Explorer.

The media specialist follows a rotating schedule of class instruction where children learn media skills, and the student opportunity for book checkout remains available throughout the day.

Reading Counts

The RC Quiz List includes all quizzes in the system, but does not reflect the actual South Daytona Media Center book collection. We do have many of these titles, but we encourage readers to check the list and choose books from the public library as well. The list is in ABC order. Just enter the title in the search box and press enter. It will show your title if it has a RC test available. Please note there are hundreds of pages in this list, so you might want to just view them rather than printing. Save a tree and remember to Read, Read, Read!

Media Center Access

The Volusia County School district has a process in which parents can select their student's level of access to the school media center collection each year:

  • Unlimited (Students default to unlimited access if Media Center Access Form is not filled out.)
  • Limited
  • No Access

Parents can access the form to tell the district their preference using the link below. The parents' choice will be recorded in Destiny, the district's library book circulation system.
